As a result of hostile actions by the russian occupiers, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was fully de-energized on March 9th. Due to constant fighting, repairs and restoration of energy supply are currently impossible. The satellite city of Chernobyl Slavutych also remains without electricity.
“The situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is difficult. There were shellings, the power line was damaged, so the Chernobyl nuclear power plant does not supply electricity. We don't know what to expect from the occupiers. They are monkeys with a grenade. We invite IAEA specialists to Ukraine not only to learn from our words what is happening at Ukrainian nuclear power plants but also to see for themselves what the occupiers are doing”, - commented Andrii Herus, Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services.
Ukrainian authorities call on the entire international community to immediately demand a ceasefire from russia and allow repair crews to restore power in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant as soon as possible because backup diesel generators can power Chernobyl and its facilities for 48 hours, which threatens to leak radiation.
In one of his interviews, Andrii Herus noted that the results of the "friendship" with the fraternal Russian people from the Chernobyl shelling will be felt by Belarusians in the first place: "The Chernobyl nuclear power plant is a danger exactly for Belarus. That is why the Belarusian people are experiencing the results of "friendship" with the fraternal Russian people and army.”
Currently, the Ukrainian transmission system operator the National Energy Company “Ukrenergo” is waiting for a safe corridor that will provide an opportunity to restore the line that will bring to work again the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
"Our repair crews are ready to repair the line immediately, despite the threat of being shot by the enemy, and are waiting for permission," - said the press service of the NEC "Ukrenergo".
