The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the European Union Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze:

I hope that on March 10-11th, at an informal meeting of EU heads of state and government in Paris, member states will have a consensus on Ukraine's accession to the EU and a particular procedure for considering our application.

The European Commission has something to rely on when granting us candidate status when preparing an opinion. It assesses the European Union–Ukraine Association Agreement, agreed by all member states and presented during the 23rd Ukraine-EU Summit. Procrastination will be a wrong signal not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe, which would thus demonstrate its weakness to the Russians.

Yes, such a particular procedure is extraordinary given the extraordinary circumstances, but it is not a precedent. At one time, East Germany joined the European Union. Then the situation also required non-standard solutions.

We still have a lot of shortcomings at home, but let's be honest - the EU accepted less willing members than we do. After the war, society will be even more demanding reforms and intolerant of corruption.

Today we are protecting the whole continent and paying the price for European values that even the founding states did not pay.
