Every single moment, the population of Ukraine, in particular children, is threatened with starvation or death from enemy weapons. Today, according to preliminary estimates alone, thousands of civilians, including children, have been killed.
In the parts of Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, Chernihiv regions and in the city of Mariupol, which are under siege by the occupiers, there is no electricity, gas, heating, or water supply.
According to Article 38 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which the Russian Federation has recognized as obligatory, member states are obliged to respect the rules of international humanitarian law applicable to them in the event of armed conflict and involve children, and ensure their implementation.
However, Russian troops do not provide the opportunity to evacuate the affected population, children, i.e. grossly violate the right of children to survival and healthy development, education, health care, security and other rights guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The inaction of international organizations with the authority to create humanitarian corridors to remove civilians, especially children, from the war zone violates international humanitarian law and, of course, discredits their activities.
Given the difficult situation, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy addressed the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer with a request to help establish immediately humanitarian corridors for evacuation of children, families with children, children with disabilities, orphans in boarding schools, institutions, as well as in hospitals, and evacuate civilians from the occupied by the Russian troops territories and occupied territories, where active hostilities are taking place.
The Ukrainian people and its Parliament are hoping to be heard and in the near future to be provided with everything necessary, first of all a safe corridor to get children out of danger!
