Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk held the working meeting with Vice Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Inese Libina-Egnere.
According to Olena Kondratiuk, Ukraine has high hopes for the further development of friendly and partnership relations with the Republic of Latvia.
"We are counting on the intensification of Inter-Parliamentary contacts both at the level of the Parliamentary Leadership and at the level of Inter-Parliamentary relations groups. I know that the deputies of the Latvian Saeima have already created the Crimea Platform Group in the Saeima. We hope that this will be a good example for other parliaments," Olena Kondratiuk stressed.
On behalf of the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, the Vice Speaker also expressed her sincere gratitude to Latvia for its principled support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russian aggression. "I am personally grateful to you, as the Head of the Latvian delegation to the PACE, for the assistance you provide to Ukraine," Olena Kondratiuk said.
The Deputy Chairperson also stressed that the Verkhovna Rada highly appreciates the signing of the Joint Declaration on the European Perspective of Ukraine with the participation of the Republic of Latvia. According to Olena Kondratiuk, "this is а real and friendly step of Latvia in support of Ukraine's European choice."
"Ukraine has also fulfilled all the legal requirements for providing the NATO Membership Action Plan. We understand that today the provision of the MAP is a purely political issue. Therefore, we hope that the Latvian side will continue to support this aspiration of the Ukrainian people," expressed her hopes the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.
She also thanked Latvia for sharing a batch of vital COVID-19 vaccines with Ukraine.
In turn, Vice Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Inese Libina-Egnere, noted that Ukraine can count on the full support of Latvia and the strengthening of Inter-Parliamentary ties between the Saeima and the Verkhovna Rada. She shared her positive impressions from her stay in Ukraine and from participating in the celebrations. Inese Libina-Egnere also invited Olena Kondratiuk to visit the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia in the near future
