From the Georgian side, the meeting was attended by Chairperson of the Committee on National Security and Defense Irakli Beraia and the member of the Committee on National Security and Defense Alexander Elisashvili.
At the beginning of the meeting, Chairperson of the Committee O. Merezhko expressed gratitude to his Georgian colleagues for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He also expressed confidence that the development of a strategic partnership between Ukraine and Georgia will continue to be one of the key factors of security and stability in the region and on the European continent.
The parties exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including the development of bilateral political dialogue, intensification and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the internal situation and further steps of integration into the EU and NATO of the both countries.
The parliamentarians of Ukraine and Georgia drew attention to the need to deepen cooperation between our countries at all levels, including between permanent delegations in the Inter-Parliamentary assemblies in order to mobilize broad international support for Ukraine and Georgia in combating Russian aggression, introduction of effective mechanisms for international monitoring of the situation and protection of human rights in the occupied territories, as well as deoccupation of the occupied territories.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the possibility of exchanging visits at the level of the Committees and Chairpersons of the Parliaments of Ukraine and Georgia in the near future.
