Adopted the Law of Ukraine “On Amending Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Procedure for the Election (Appointment) of Members of the High Council of Justice and the Activities of Disciplinary Inspectors of the Higher Council of Justice”

Adopted the Law of Ukraine No. 5068 “On Amending Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Procedure for the Election (Appointment) of Members of the High Council of Justice and the Activities of Disciplinary Inspectors of the Higher Council of Justice”.
The Law No. 5068 specifies the procedure for the creation and activities of the Ethical Council, which will consist of 3 persons nominated by the Council of Judges and 3 persons nominated by international organizations with which Ukraine has been cooperating in the past 3 years in the spheres of corruption prevention / court reform. The powers of the Ethical Council to establish compliance of a candidate member of the HCJ with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity and to provide a list of candidates recommended for appointment. Envisages that within 3 months from the day of approval of the composition of the Ethical Council it will conduct an assessment of HCJ members (except the Chairperson of the Supreme Court) who were elected/appointed before the coming into force of this Law to determine whether they comply with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity. Based on the results of the assessment, the Ethical Council can adopt a motivated recommendation to dismiss a HCJ member.
