Deputy Speaker of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk held the working meeting with the Parliamentary Delegation of the French Republic. The meeting was attended by Head of the France-Ukraine Friendship Group in the French National Assembly Valeria Faure-Muntian, Head of the France-Ukraine friendship group in the Senate Nadezhda Sologub, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly Anne Jante and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine Etienne de Poncins.
"We highly appreciate your close cooperation and this friendly visit, as well as for France's continued support for Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity. Our state highly appreciates the efforts of France within the framework of the Normandy format. We are also grateful for the agreement to take part in the summit of the Crimean Platform, which will take place in August," said Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Olena Kondratiuk.
According to her, the Verkhovna Rada also expects a planned and successful visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Ukraine, which will further strengthen bilateral relations between our countries.
"We expect that France will support the provision of an Action Plan for Ukraine's membership in NATO, as the NATO Summit in Brussels has once again confirmed that Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance precisely because of the MAP. That is why we in Ukraine understand that for today this issue is exclusively political," Olena Kondratiuk stressed.
No less important, according to the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, is the Inter-Parliamentary dialogue between Ukraine and France. In particular, she called on the representatives of the French Parliamentary delegation to convey to their colleagues the importance of the Crimean Platform, joint counteraction to misinformation, protection of human rights in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine in Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
Olena Kondratiuk noted that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also pays considerable attention to the development and strengthening of socio-economic relations with the French Republic. Olena Kondratiuk stressed that France's support in the socio-economic reconstruction of the eastern regions of Ukraine affected by Russian aggression and the personal visits of French parliamentarians to these regions are very valuable.
Also during the meeting, the parties discussed women's participation in politics, ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women to be represented in the national Parliaments. Olena Kondratiuk noted that the experience of the French Parliament, where about 40 percent of deputies are women, has always been an example for Ukraine in matters of dignity, equality and respect for women in politics.
Taking the opportunity, the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada invited the French parliamentarians to take part in the celebrations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence. In turn, representatives of the French parliamentary delegation extended an invitation to Olena Kondratiuk from the Speaker of the Senate of the French Republic to visit the country in the framework of the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
