Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk together with the Inter-Factional Parliamentary Association "Equal Opportunities" demand that the Minister of Defense of Ukraine cancel the decision to march by women-soldiers in high-heeled shoes during the Independence Day parade.
The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada voiced the requirements of the IFPA "Equal Opportunities" to the Ministry of Defense:
- to conduct an official investigation and report to the public who made such a decision;
- to report on the amount of money spent on the purchase of these shoes from our taxes, and who will be materially responsible for this;
- to publicly apologize for the humiliation of women in the army and veterans who defended and continue to defend Ukraine's independence and sovereignty with weapons in hand.
Olena Kondratyuk reminded that the society, the Parliament and the IFPA "Equal Opportunities" have been working together for a long time to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women soldiers. Thanks to these efforts, many absurd restrictions on women's military service and military education have been lifted. In particular, today more than 31,000 women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of which more than 4,000 are officers. More than 13,500 women received the status of combatants.
