The Committee on Public Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance considered the Draft Law "On Amendments to Annex 3 of the Law of Ukraine 'On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2021' on Ensuring Extended Neonatal Screening in Ukraine” (No. 5589).
The bill proposes to allocate UAH 300 million from the state budget for the implementation of an affordable neonatal screening system in Ukraine, which every family will be able to receive at the expense of the state.
The Committee members noted that this legislative initiative is extremely important and relevant, as the creation of a state system of neonatal screening will provide early asymptomatic diagnosis of genetic diseases of newborns, their effective treatment and timely correction of complications. This will require significantly lower budget expenditures than the treatment of complicated forms of such diseases diagnosed at a late stage and subsequent disability benefits.
The Committee decided to recommend to the Verkhovna Rada to adopt the draft law as a basis and in general.
