The Verkhovna Rada approved the Statement on the incident of forced landing of Ryanair aircraft in Minsk on May 23, 2021 and instructed the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to ensure the immediate forwarding of the text of the Statement to the United Nations, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Parliament, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, National Governments and Parliaments of the world.
In the Statement, the Verkhovna Rada strongly condemned the actions of the Belarusian authorities regarding the forced landing of the Ryanair passenger company and the detention of Roman Protasevich, and called for the immediate release of Roman Protasevich and all political prisoners.
The Verkhovna Rada called on the International Civil Aviation Organization to immediately investigate this unacceptable act with the corresponding consequences for those who committed it.
The Parliament also declares its full support for the action of the Government of Ukraine, which in order to ensure the safety of civil aviation and society introduced the ban on air traffic between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus from May 26, 2021 and strengthened "air sanctions" against Belarusian airlines from May 28, 2021.
