During the event, participants discussed issues related to election information support, including legal regulation of election campaigning, including "early" and "hidden", social media campaigning, information and campaigning for people with disabilities, media regulation during elections and standards of their work.
The experts stated that the development of Internet media and social networks necessitates changes in the legal regulation of relations in the field of campaigning, which should prevent unfair competition between political parties and candidates, ensure the right of voters to receive reliable information about election campaign participants, and promote greater openness of election finance.
Some topics of discussion were the education of voters, in particular, through the media, as well as the issue of regulating the access of electoral actors, society and the media to open election data.
During the discussion, the participants shared their views on ways to improve the provisions of the election legislation governing the above issues, and provided practical recommendations based on existing case law.
The event was organized by the Committee together with the Central Election Commission, the NGO OPORA Civic Network, local government associations, international partners and experts.
