On May 20, the first National Parliamentary Online Lesson for pupils and teachers took place. Its participants were more than 35 thousand schoolchildren of 7-9 grades and two thousand teachers from all over Ukraine.
At the beginning of the lesson, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk noted: "It is gratifying that so many school communities from all over the country joined the event. After all, the Parliament is a key institution, historical decisions are made within its walls."
She spoke about important laws in the field of education, the functions and main powers of the Verkhovna Rada, the importance of its work for the state, as well as the Comprehensive Program of Parliamentary Education.
According to her, 40% of young people are not interested in political life. The Comprehensive Program of Parliamentary Education is designed to change this situation. The program will help to talk about the Verkhovna Rada in an accessible and understandable language, to modernize the approach to understanding parliamentarism.
The Open Council project is also being implemented - a set of positive changes that everyone will be able to see soon. "In particular, we plan to resume excursions after quarantine restrictions, online registration for visits will start working soon and we will launch the mobile application in test mode," the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada added.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Ukraine Manal Fouani noted that the program has been working since 2019 to improve communications in the Parliament and implement various modern tools. "Today you have to prepare for the future active role in the life of the state, and learn how to cooperate with the Parliament," she told the pupils.
The event was organized by the Education Center of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in cooperation with the EU-UNDP Parliamentary Reform Project.
