First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk spoke about the bill on the local referendum, which was registered in the Parliament of Ukraine on May 19.
According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, the main priority of the Working Group on the development of bills in the field of democracy, which worked on the draft law, was "not speed, but quality."
"We have already discussed the text of the bill and submit it to the Parliament of Ukraine for consideration in the first reading. And between the first and second readings we want to get the conclusion of the Venice Commission. We will also be grateful to everyone who joins the discussion and gives us the opportunity to see the things that we did not take into account in this bill," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
"I would like Ukrainians to receive a mechanism for implementing direct democracy at the local level if the draft law "On Local Referendum" will be passed. It is important to note that this draft law, like the Law on the All-Ukrainian Referendum, was written primarily for the people, for the people, and not for individual political forces," said First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.
