Without ensuring the effective functioning of the Parliamentary opposition and its internal control function, without guaranteeing and exercising the opposition's right to legislate, it is impossible to fully ensure the effective work of the parliament and restore confidence to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as an institution.
This was emphasized by Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk during the Conciliation Council of Deputy Factions and Groups.
"As a Vice-Speaker from the opposition, I have to state that we have not changed for the better in the issues of inclusion in the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada of bills from opposition factions. Relevant, important and socially-oriented legislative initiatives of the parliamentary minority, unfortunately, are not submitted to the session hall," she stressed.
Olena Kondratiuk urged not to forget that the Verkhovna Rada is a representative body of the entire Ukrainian people, and minority factions also represent a significant part of our society in the Parliament. According to her, this situation can be changed qualitatively only at the legislative level.
According to her, the institutionalization of the opposition is also one of the key indicators of the success of parliamentary reform and the practical implementation of the recommendations of the European Parliament mission led by former European Parliament President Pat Cox.
