On May 12, members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation headed by Chairperson of the Committee O. Merezhko met with members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Italian Republic headed by Chairperson of the Committee P. Fassino.
The main issues of the meeting were the strengthening of bilateral political dialogue, further development of relations between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Italian Parliament, including exchange of visits at the level of the Committees, Friendship Groups and the Chairpersons of the Parliaments, Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO and the security situation in the region.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the discussion of the security and humanitarian situation in Eastern Ukraine, the escalation of the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine, forced passportization and the situation with internally displaced persons.
The participants also discussed the security situation in the Black and Azov Seas, the militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories, the negotiation process within the Tripartite Contact Group and the prospects of negotiations in the Normandy format, as well as the Ukrainian initiative "Crimean Platform" and ways of deoccupation of Crimea.
