The Committee on State Building, Local Governance, Regional and Urban Development held three meetings of the Working Group on the development of comprehensive changes in the electoral legislation in order to unify the mechanisms of legal regulation of the electoral process.
At the first meeting, the members of the Working Group considered the organizational issues of the Working Group, agreed on an indicative plan of its work. The other two meetings were devoted to discussing and analyzing the main principles of the local election process on the following topics: participation of independent candidates in the proportional system and determining their status, changing the threshold of the electoral system, territorial organization of elections and ballot form.
Following the discussion, the Working Group agreed on the need to continue the discussion on these issues in order to develop joint summary proposals.
MPs, representatives of the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, the Central Election Commission, all-Ukrainian associations of local governments, non-governmental and international organizations, scientists and experts took part in the sittings.
