Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk held the working meeting with the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, which is on an official visit to Ukraine.

The parties noted the importance of the Second Meeting of the Ukrainian-Afghan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which took place in Kyiv.

"I also propose to resume regular exchanges of our parliamentary delegations following the lifting of quarantine restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In my opinion, the development of Inter-Parliamentary cooperation should be one of the priority areas for building political relations between our countries," Olena Kondratiuk said.

The next step in this direction, she said, could be a visit to Ukraine by the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, and his participation in the Crimean Platform summit on the eve of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

"On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, I am also grateful for the balanced position of Afghanistan in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," the Vice Speaker stressed.
