First Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk spoke about his vision of judicial reform in Ukraine.

"Judicial reform is perhaps one of the most difficult, as the special status of the judiciary creates a number of standards that must be met. Judicial decisions are made by courts on behalf of Ukraine and are binding on the entire territory of Ukraine," Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.

According to him, the countries that tried to carry out judicial reform had an extremely difficult path, and attempts to start it in Ukraine ended either by reformatting a certain link (as was the case with the Supreme Court of Ukraine), or ended in nothing.

According to First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, complex changes in justice are connected not only with the change of signs or judges, but also with the systematization and improvement of the quality of legislation that has to be applied by the judiciary.

"Each of us wants to live in a state governed by the rule of law, to receive fair court decisions that are trusted. We must find the mechanism that will allow us to start the judiciary, fill vacancies and establish control over those judges who administer justice in Ukraine," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, it is time to build a society that makes its own decisions and is able to take responsibility for them.

"We have already taken the first step by adopting the Law On an all-Ukrainian referendum. We are currently working on a number of bills on democracy, primarily related to local referendums and electronic petitions," said the First Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, the issue of democracy will be considered not only at the legislative and executive levels, but also at the judiciary.

"It is extremely important for us to introduce elements of direct democracy at the level of juries, justices of the peace and at the level of collective actions, so that people can unite around judicial protection on a problem. We must ensure the identification and implementation of the will of the Ukrainian people, and the people, in making decisions, must be responsible for them, thus shaping the future of our country," he stressed.
