The Report of the European Parliament on Ukraine's implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union, which was approved by the relevant Resolution on February 11, 2021, needs a careful analysis by the Verkhovna Rada and its relevant Committees. This was emphasized by the Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk during the Conciliation Council of Deputy Factions and Groups.
"The main message of the Resolution is that Ukraine has a European perspective and can apply for EU membership. But subject to the principles of democracy, fundamental freedoms, human rights and the rule of law," she said.
In this context, Olena Kondratiuk stressed, the European Parliament's call to Ukraine to ratify the Rome Statute, the Istanbul Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women is relevant.
I advise MPs to get acquainted with the Resolution of the European Parliament, and a detailed report on the state of implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU should be analyzed by the relevant committees of the Verkhovna Rada. We expect that the result of this analysis will be a high-quality bills," Olena Kondratiuk said.
The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada also noted that in its Resolution the European Parliament had repeatedly mentioned that the "turbo regime" in 2019 had negatively affected the quality of laws, and called for avoiding such a regime in the future.
"We also need to move towards renewing the Association Agreement to take into account the needs of our country's economic development. When Ukraine fulfills its homework, reaching EU standards, we will very quickly see our European similarity, and not only the visual similarity of Prime Minister of Ukraine Deyis Shmygal and European Council President Charles Michel," Olena Kondratiuk said.
