An online sitting of the Verkhovna Rada parliamentary group on interparliamentary relations with the Hellenic Republic took place. The deputies discussed the results of the group's activities in 2020 and determined the directions of its work during the next parliamentary session. In particular, among the priorities are the deepening of national-cultural, trade and economic ties with Greece and the implementation of bilateral cooperation programs on cognitive family tourism.
According to the co-chair of the group, MP Tatyana Plachkova, today the areas related to the development of investment cooperation between Ukraine and Greece, as well as the study of the experience of the Greek side in the organization of irrigation are relevant.
“Last year, the southern regions of Ukraine suffered significant losses due to a terrible drought. My suggestion is to turn to the Greek side to study the practice of Greek farmers in providing irrigation and preventing the effects of droughts,” she noted.
Tatyana Plachkova also suggested the implementation of the project “Children's Weekend – Mom, Dad, Me: Ukraine – Greece”, which provides for international family travel for children to gain new knowledge about the state.
The proposals were also supported by the group's co-chair, MP Dmytro Lubinets. He also stressed the need to join the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, which the country will celebrate on March 25, 2021
The participants of the meeting stressed that one of the most important topics of the activity of the group of inter-parliamentary relations with the Hellenic Republic will be the problem of the future of 168 Ukrainians who are in places of imprisonment in Greece. The People's Deputies hope that in 2021 this issue will be moved by joint efforts with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights and the Greek side.
