A video meeting was held between the groups on inter-parliamentary relations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the People’s Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria. During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of deepening national and cultural ties between the Bulgarian community in Ukraine and the Ukrainian community in Bulgaria, trade and economic ties between the two countries, and the implementation of bilateral cooperation programs on family tourism.
MP, co-chair of the group for inter-parliamentary relations with the Republic of Bulgaria Tetyana Plachkova thanked the Bulgarian side for the active cooperation and support provided to Bulgarians in Ukraine. She reminded that the interparliamentary group was established in March 2020 and informed about the results of its work.
 
“At the end of 2020, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria decided to allocate more than 261 thousand levs for the overhaul of the facade and landscaping of the school in the Bolgrad district of Odesa region. This joint initiative of the Verkhovna Rada with Bulgaria and the Bolgrad District Council has become one of the successful results in international cooperation between the states,” she noted. During the event, Tatyana Plachkova presented the project ‘Children's Weekend – Mom, Dad, I: Ukraine – Bulgaria”, developed by the parliamentary group of interparliamentary relations with the Republic of Bulgaria. The project aims to develop new forms of international family recreation and combine it with children's study of culture and history. It is an exchange of tourist groups (families with children under 14) for short-term weekend trips to Ukraine or Bulgaria. In the near future, the parties will work on further steps for its practical implementation.
“Economic cooperation is developing. Of course, the pandemic has severely affected tourism, as it is a sector of the economy that needs long-term investment,” said Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Chairperson of the Friendship Group between the Republic of Bulgaria and Ukraine Valeri Simeonov. He expressed hope that cooperation in this direction will be intensified soon.
 
« The opening of the Ukrainian Information and Cultural Center in Sofia and the Center for the Bulgarian Community in Odesa, as well as the opening of a Bulgarian secondary school in Odesa, are currently being considered. The issue that has already been partially resolved is the opening of Bulgarian language classes in Zaporizhzhia, where a large Bulgarian community,” said the Chairperson of the Friendship Group between the Republic of Bulgaria and Ukraine.
 
Tetyana Plachkova expressed hope that the Ukrainian Parliament would support such initiatives.
The parties called for the resumption of the work of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Ukraine and Bulgaria, which has not been working for 10 years, as well as for the start of the intergovernmental working group on tourism development.
 
The representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ukraine Olena Slatynska-Ovanezova noted that despite the pandemic, last year was successful for the development of dialogue between the states. In particular, high-level and top-level talks took place.
 
 “Bulgaria supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and the path to the EU is the direction in which we must move closer,” summed up Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Chairperson of the Friendship Group between the Republic of Bulgaria and Ukraine Valeri Simeonov.
 
 
The parties expressed hope that after the end of the pandemic they will be able to implement joint projects and intensify cooperation between inter parliamentary groups.
