A sitting of the Committee on Legal Policy was held, at which the people's deputies considered the issue of reducing the constitutional composition of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The People's Deputies considered the draft law No.1017 n amendments to Articles 76 and 77 of the Constitution of Ukraine (concerning the reduction of the constitutional composition of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the consolidation of the proportional electoral system) introduced by the President of Ukraine as urgent.
The purpose of the bill is to implement measures of parliamentary reform in terms of optimizing the general principles of the status of the Parliament of Ukraine. The bill proposes:
1) to reduce the composition of people's deputies of Ukraine to three hundred;
2) to introduce such an electoral qualification as knowledge of the state language;
3) change the electoral system and consolidate the proportional electoral system in parliamentary elections.
Following the discussion, the Committee on Legal Policy recommends the adoption of the draft law No. 1017.
