The Educational Center of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine hosted an online lesson on “Legislative activity of the parliament in defense of the sovereignty of Ukraine” for Ivan Bohun Kyiv Military Lyceum`s cadets dedicated to the Defender of Ukraine Day.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk congratulated the future defenders. She wished the lyceum students success in their further education. “The topic of today's lesson is extremely important. This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine. Section 9 of this document states that the Ukrainian SSR has the right to its own Armed Forces,” noted Olena Kondratiuk.

The Vice Speaker noted that 42 girls are currently studying at the Ivan Bohun Military Lyceum. “There is an idea and desire to hold a meeting with girls-students of the lyceum and we will definitely do it after the quarantine,” emphasized Olena Kondratiuk.

Volodymyr Mirnenko, Director of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, also greeted the participants of the online lesson. He spoke about the system of military education and the possibility of entering educational institutions.

An online tour of the iconic places of the parliament was also conducted for lyceum students. The guide spoke about honoring the memory of servicepersons of the National Guard of Ukraine who died under the walls of parliament in August 2015.

Lyceum students were interested in the legislative process on the implementation of NATO standards, parliamentary control over national security and the Minsk agreements.
