On July 23, the Ukrainian Women's Congress (UWC) is expected to begin its work online, becoming, by tradition, an open public platform that shapes the equal rights and opportunities agenda for government, parliament, local communities, private and public sectors and for media community as well.

The event was organized by the public organization "Ukrainian Women's Congress" being inspired by a VRU’s inter-factional association (IFA) "Equal Opportunities" and with the support of international partners.

High-level officials and dignitaries, representatives of the executive power, international organizations, foreign embassies, socially responsible business and non-governmental organizations were invited to participate in the Congress. The Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada, Co-Chair of the IFA "Equal Opportunities", Olena Kondratiuk, will also be in attendance.

The conferees will discuss new challenges stemmed from the galloping pandemic and their impact on the upcoming local elections in Ukraine, the role of political and civic leadership in combating COVID-19 and the economic crisis.

Below, you’ll find the platform discussions timetable:

1) 10:00-11:00 “LOCAL ELECTIONS 2020: WILL WE HAVE MORE WOMEN IN POLITICS?” - How changes in the election legislation and the ongoing pandemic would affect the electoral process in Ukraine. Main challenges and opportunities for women to take an active part in the local elections.

2) 12:00-13:00 “WOMEN AND MEN IN THE PANDEMIC CONTEXT: HOW TO MEET THE NEEDS AND CREATE SAFE LIVING ENVIRONMENT?” - The impact of the pandemic on the security and economic situation of women and men, as well as their vulnerable groups in Ukraine. Requisite arrangements and practical ways to address the crisis-induced challenges exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic.

3) 14:00-15:00 “EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP IN FIGHTING THE PANDEMIC” - The role of political and civic leadership in combating the pandemic and economic crisis.  What kind of influence the new life reality makes on the decision-making process?
