“The nearest sitting of the Ukraine-Poland Parliamentary Assembly will take place on June 23,” -- Olena Kondratiuk, a Co-Chair of the Assembly
The Ukraine-Poland Parliamentary Assembly is scheduled to be held on June 23, 2020. The date and format of the event have been finally determined during a meeting of the Presidium of the Assembly with the participation of its co-chairs – the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk and the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Terlecki.
This will be the first sitting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in the 9th convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Due to the COVID-19 quarantine restrictions it will be conducted through video conferencing.
According to the vice speaker, topical issues of bilateral relations will be discussed during the sitting of the Assembly with the participation of Ukrainian MPs and their Polish colleagues. "In particular, we will share experiences on the role of parliaments in combating and overcoming the negative socio-economic consequences of the coronavirus. We will also discuss the security situation in the region and how to respond to Russia's hybrid threats. Hot-button for our countries are the issues of opening borders, protecting the rights of migrant and seasonal workers as well. There will also be a cluster of questions dedicated to cooperation in the humanitarian sphere," Olena Kondratiuk said.
Adoption of a declaration of the Ukraine-Poland Parliamentary Assembly is expected as a result of the meeting.
"This document is to mirror our joint achievements and outline plans for cooperation in the near future. I am convinced that we must constantly strengthen the friendly and partner Ukrainian-Polish relationship. They are strategically important for both countries," Rada’s vice speaker highlighted.
It is worth mentioning that the Ukrainian wing of the Ukraine-Poland Parliamentary Assembly consists of 20 Ukrainian MPs, representing the majority and minority factions, as well as non-affiliated members of parliament.
