Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (CFA) held on 6 November a meeting with a delegation of the House of Elders (Upper House) of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The Afghan deputation was headed by Senator Mohammad Alam Izedyar, the First Deputy Speaker of the Upper House.

In the course of the discussion, initiated by the Afghan side, the parties had ample talks on a wide spectrum of the inter-state relations - their political, economic and humanitarian dimensions.

The Afghan parliamentarians stressed the need to intensify the inter-parliamentary dialogue between Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, namely to deepen the cooperation through setting up relevant inter-parliamentary friendship groups.

The members of the Ukrainian parliament informed their interlocutors that the committee had already begun preparations for establishing such a group with the parliament of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and assured the counterparts that the group would begin its work in the very near future.

Among other things, the Afghan side raised the issue of deepening cooperation in the sphere of education and improving consular-related services, including passport and visa procedures.

At the end of the meeting, Senator Mohammad Alam Izedyar invited members of the committee to visit the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
