The сommitteemen met with the Delegation of the European Commission (Union) to Ukraine.
The committee members held a meeting with Head of Political Section of the European Commission's Delegation to Ukraine Artur Gebal, First Secretary of the Delegation, Advisor on Decentralization to the Support Group for Ukraine Benedikt Herrmann and Political Officer at the EU Delegation to Ukraine Dimitri Gorchakov.
During the meeting, there was an ample debate on the issues related to the process of decentralization in Ukraine, amalgamation of territorial communities, as well as to amendment bills to the Law of Ukraine "On the capital of Ukraine – the Hero-City of Kyiv". The committee chairman expounded the draft Law of Ukraine No.2143 "On the capital of Ukraine – the Hero-City of Kyiv", adoption of which would vastly further the restoration of a holistic system of local self-government in the City of Kyiv, as well as the implementation of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and exercising the rights of Kyiv’s territorial community.
During the meeting, they also discussed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s proposals to the Electoral Code of Ukraine, which the committee’s Subcommittee on Elections, Referenda and Other Forms of Direct Democracy is in charge of.
The committee members provided the guests with extensive information and were assured of continued support to Ukraine’s decentralization reform on the part of the European Union.
