Within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Lithuania, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy met on August 22 with the Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis.
At the beginning of the meeting, V.Pranckietis noted that Lithuania supports Ukraine's European integration and hopes for its quick EU membership. "We support an open door policy for Ukraine in the European Union," he said in addition.
While discussing Ukraine’s situation, the Lithuanian parliamentary leader expressed Lithuania's deep concern over issuing passports to Ukrainian citizens living in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by the Russian Federation. He also conveyed words of solidarity and support to Ukrainian seamen captured by Russia in the Sea of Azov.
The Seimas speaker congratulated the Ukrainian delegation on the coming Independence Day and expressed his hope for further reforms in Ukraine.
In his turn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy thanked Victoras Pranckietis for the consistent strategic support Lithuania provides to Ukraine.
"Perhaps, there is no one who has rendered Ukraine more aid and support as Lithuania has during the most difficult times of Ukraine’s history, including the ongoing Russian aggression," the politician said, having then added that the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania had adopted seven resolutions in support of Ukraine over the last two years.
The parties discussed the strategy and coordination actions in counteracting the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. They also talked over the threats posed by the Russian Federation's return to G7 and PACE.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy took part in the Third President Valdas Adamkus International Conference taking place at the Presidential Palace, located in Vilnius Old Town.
