On Saturday, August 24, at the premises of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, there was held a ceremony of awarding participants of the Anti-terrorist operation, volunteers, participants of the Dignity Revolution on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
Opening the event, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy congratulated the meeting on the Independence Day of Ukraine.
“The people that have gathered here did fight for our Independence, they passed all stages of our national liberation struggle, passed through the Orange Revolution, the Revolution of Dignity, and most of you, as the greatest challenge emerged, did go to the war, the battle-front as volunteers.
When the army was not prepared to fight, you did build the ideological basis for the Ukrainian army with arms in your hands,” the Speaker addressed to those present, extolling them for being able to “stop the enemy by their bravery, their great faith in Ukraine”.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada reminded achievements of the last five years: a revived Ukrainian army, the decommunization crusade, the independent Ukrainian church, and the law on the Ukrainian language.
Andriy Parubiy expressed his conviction that the people who came out today to the Independence Square in Kyiv are different, yet united by a firm idea - that no one will be able to cast doubt on Ukraine and Ukraine’s victory".
“No one will ever be able to violate the borders of the Ukrainian State. You are the pledge for this, you are the guarantors,” A. Parubiy stated.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy was also awarded a commemorative medal “25 Years of Ukraine’s Independence”.
