The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is now paying a 3-day working visit to the Republic of Lithuania. On August 22, he met with the Lithuanian Seimas Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis. The meeting resulted in a joint briefing.
Andriy Parubiy thanked the Republic of Lithuania for supporting Ukraine in the situation of Russia's return to PACE.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada considers it very important that the new Ukrainian delegation to PACE maintain "the continuity in policy pursued by the previous delegation and get co-ordinated with our friends at PACE quickly".
He also informed that the Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis had proposed an advanced format for meetings of the Lithuanian and Ukrainian delegations to PACE, the next session of which is to be held in September.
Asked about further relations between the two countries in the context of the political twists in Ukraine, Andriy Parubiy reminded that "Lithuania has always supported Ukraine, with whatever government at the helm", and expressed confidence that the relations would continue to be "very tight and sincere”.
“I have high expectations and hopes that new MPs elected to Ukraine’s parliament would very quickly realize that there is no more desperate and sincerer advocate of Ukraine than Lithuania to date. This is a substantial resource on Ukraine’s pathway to the European Union, the resource, which should be esteemed highly,” the Speaker underscored.
