The First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a representative of "European Solidarity" political party Iryna Herashchenko participated in a sitting of the preparatory parliamentary group of the Verkhovna Rada of the ninth convocation

At the meeting of the preparatory group on August 9, Iryna Herashchenko stated that European Solidarity would come to the Verkhovna Rada to embrace a constructive approach over issues related to EU and NATO integration, focusing on pursuing European and Euro-Atlantic integration policies and implementing the agreements on association with EU and cooperation with NATO.

On behalf of European Solidarity party, Iryna Herashchenko called on not only to discuss “technical” issues of holding a solemn meeting, but also to focus on the agenda of the first plenary session and to identify the backbone priorities for posterior work of the new parliament.

“We would like to see a programme of the pro-government party to clearly understand the platform which the majority’s and the government’s positions are to be formed on. This document is quite important for everyone to understand the authorities' priorities, ”the politician said.

Iryna Herashchenko reminded that among the draft bills which have already been adopted on the first reading, there are several important European integration bills that European Solidarity party proposes to put on the agenda in September, in particular - the law on military ranks.

As to the deployment of posts in the presidium of the Verkhovna Rada, I. Herashchenko stressed that there should be professionals at the head of the national legislature, and called on to adhere to the principle of proportional distribution of leading positions among representatives of different factions. It should be guided by the Regulations concerning proportional representation in committees, leadership of the parliamentary committees, as well as of inter-parliamentary delegations as appropriate.

“Our political team demonstrates experience and professionalism, and we stand for professional people to staff the parliamentary leadership. We believe that our team can put forward best leaders for the committee of national security and defence, as well as for committees on European integration, foreign affairs, freedom of speech, rules of parliamentary procedure and support, budget, culture, human rights, and veterans’ affairs,” she averred.

In her speech, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked all political forces for the gender balance in the electoral rolls and expressed her hope for the same approach as to the committees.
