Together with the Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Iryna Friz, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko made on June 21 a working visit to Zhytomyr and took part in festivities on the occasion of the Veteran's House’s anniversary, created there on the basis of the ATO soldiers vertebrology and rehabilitation centre.
Congratulating the audience, Iryna Herashchenko thanked the local authorities, the government, and, in particular, the representatives of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and the patrons for their concerted efforts aimed at creating of the unique rehabilitation centre.
I.Herashchenko and I. Friz got acquainted with the conditions of recovery and rehabilitation of our soldiers who have passed the fronts of the Ukraine independence struggle and opposed the Russian aggressor in eastern Ukraine, and thanked the centre’s leadership and staff.
"Similar veterans rehab centres should be spread out nationwide," the politician convinced. - We have seen how well it is possible to reintegrate those who went through the war. The Veteran's House works on the principle of a "one-stop shop", where, in combination with medical assistance and rehabilitation services provided by the vertebrology centre, the defenders return to a peaceful life, unloading emotionally at the same time. For servicemen and families of the fallen, this is not just a medical institution, but kind of a home," the first vice-speaker declared.
Within the framework of the "Library for Donbas" campaign Iryna Herashchenko and Iryna Friz transferred to the Veteran's House a whole library of modern literature from the best Ukrainian publishing houses and had talks with veterans from all over Ukraine on the state policy oriented to supporting veterans.
"We have adopted a law on the creation of a single state register of veterans. And our current task is to do our utmost to make this register work. It is very important that every veteran be included in this register and could obtain relevant services," the politician stressed and then informed about their plans to take the best practices from Canada, USA, Croatia etc. all directed at rehabilitation and involvement of veterans in social life.
While in Zhytomyr, I. Herashchenko met with journalists and locals and discussed topical issues of the region’s social and economic development.
Iryna Herashchenko expressed her conviction that parliamentarians would do their best to complete consideration of all the pressing bills during the last plenary week of the tenth session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation. In particular, it is about the bill No.10244-1 "On military chaplaincy" and the bill No.10181 "On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine (regarding military duty and military service)".
"The troops are waiting for the parliament to pass these decisions and we will do everything to ensure that these bills be approved by the end of the tenth session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation," she insisted.
The Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine I.Friz held as well a regular meeting of the Zhytomyr Veterans Council and unfolded the preparation and selection plan for veterans wishing to partake in the Games of the Undefeated in 2020.
