During the morning plenary session on May 30, the first vice-speaker foregrounded the draft law of Ukraine No. 10181 "On amendments to certain acts of law of Ukraine (as to the general military duty and military service)".
The politician apprised the audience of the said bill having been developed jointly with the Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and international partners of Ukraine from NATO member states. Iryna Herashchenko stressed that the essence of the bill does correspond to the pattern of making an effective and professional NCO corps and gaining by Ukraine’s army being highly cohesive and compatible with the armed forces of NATO member countries.
She then emphasized that adopting the above-mentioned draft bill would allow of implementing a new military rank system in the UA sergeants (NOCs) and POs, ensuring its comparability to the equivalent column of the NATO Code in accordance with STANAG 2116; increasing the role of NOCs and POs in training and educating the inferiors.
The politician informed that the bill is to make a new table of military ranks in the army and navy, along with the new duty regulations.
According to I. Herashchenko, this bill supplements the Charter of the Internal Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with new provisions and annexes, and establishes the order of keeping a "Book of Remembrance" for perpetuating the memory of servicemen who have fallen for freedom and independence of Ukraine.
"It may be said without much exaggeration, that approval of this bill is waited for by all servicemen of Ukraine," I. Herashchenko underlined.
The bill vote results made 231 ayes. It was the first reading of the paper.
