“Election of Ukraine’s president – the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – shall take place on March 31, 2019. He will not be “selected” by Moscow. He shall be elected by merely the people of Ukraine,” -- Iryna Herashchenko

In her special sitting speech on November 26, I.Herashchenko appealed to leaders of the parliamentary factions and groups calling to uphold the martial law decision brought about by yet another act of marine aggression perpetrated by the Russian Federation in the Kerch Strait basin the day before.

She condemned the fact that territorial integrity and state sovereignty issues seemed to be of much lower interest to representatives of certain political forces in the parliament than the issue of coming presidential election in Ukraine.

She stressed that in New York, there was today a special meeting of the UN Security Council caused by a sharp worsening of situation in the Kerch Strait, and regretfully stated that the Ukrainian parliament failed to adopt a positive martial law decision before that UN meeting.

The politician then called on to support the warlike bill No.9338, which was passed by two hundred seventy six ayes later on.

The parliament also carried the decision on presidential election set to be held on March 31, 2019 and supported the resolution No.9341 with an appeal to the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, national parliaments of the world in connection with the act of aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
