"In 2016, restoration of a section of the Ukrainian-Russian border in the east of Ukraine failed. Besides, unfortunately we have not seen any positive changes within the Normandy Format or the Minsk agreement - the shelling by militants is underway. Thus, all the events in Donbas will remain important in 2017," Hanna Hopko said at the meeting of the Ukrainian Prism foreign policy council.
The parliamentarian also noted the importance of parliamentary control over the security and defense sector of Ukraine. "The minister of defense has to provide his report at least twice a year," she insisted.
Hanna Hopko also said that the law on diplomatic service will have to be adopted in 2017.
The Member of the Ukrainian Parliament also expects some reshuffles at the main embassies.
Hopko said Ukraine expects visits of Pope Francis and newly elected U.S. Secretary of State.
The speaker also praised economic success in signing the Agreement with Canada on the free trade area, creation of a new An-132 plane by the ANTONOV company, first commercial flight by the An-225 Mriya plane from Prague (the Czech Republic) to Perth (Australia), etc.
At the same time, Hanna Hopko said there was no strategic vision of economic development of the state.
