On December 14, 2016, Volodymyr Zhemchuhov returned to Kyiv after the first stage of medial treatment in the Federal Republic of Germany, where he was provided with prosthetic devices and got his sight partially restored.

"Thanks to the support of the President of Ukraine, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, European Parliament member Rebecca Harms and volunteers, Volodymyr Zhemchuhov received the help," Iryna Heraschenko said.

Special Envoy for Ukraine / Head of the Ukraine Task Force within the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany Andreas Prothmann stressed that Germany is ready to provided all required medical care to the Ukrainians - victims of the conflict in the east of Ukraine and to support Ukraine on the whole.

The participants in the meeting discussed current situation in the east of Ukraine, in particular, humanitarian and security situation in Donbas.

Iryna Heraschenko also stressed that Ukraine hopes that the process of release of hostages would soon be unblocked.

"The Ukrainian side is handing over 15 persons to representatives of some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. We hope that this would facilitate the process of release of Ukrainian hostages before the New Year's Day," said First Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine / Representative of Ukraine in the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group for the Settlement of the Situation in Donbas (Ukraine-OSCE-Russia), Iryna Heraschenko.
