Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oksana Syroyid opened the parliamentary hearings.

She noted that the major challenge today is the fact that the world changes in view of the development of technologies, growth of the population and growth of the number of threats.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for European Integration Olena Zerkal, Deputy Minister of Defense for European integration Ihor Dolhov and Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister Yurii Brovchenko delivered their speeches.

Besides, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko also took floor before the participants in the hearings.

She called countering of the Russian aggression, restoration of peace and return of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Donbas under the control of Ukraine the priorities in the Ukrainian foreign policy.

Hanna Hopko expressed hope that the President of Ukraine along with the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Parliament will eventually table new law and foreign policy concept strategy for consideration of the Ukrainian legislature.

Hopko also advocated completion of the diplomatic service reform, adoption of new law On Diplomatic Service through turning it into a modern and creative service being in line with contemporary challenges and requirements.

Deputy Chair of the Committee on European Integration Mariya Ionova said that current problems faced by the Ukrainian diplomats require immediate and effective solution as well as comprehensive support from all branches of power.

Besides, the participants in the parliamentary hearings were members of the Ukrainian Parliament, representatives of bodies of state power, scientific institutions; non-government, religious and mass media organizations.

The speakers stressed that the key priorities and tasks of Ukraine and Ukrainian diplomacy are countering the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, restoration of territorial integrity of Ukraine as well as protection and restoration of rights of the Ukrainian citizens / victims of the international armed conflict and/or of those living in the occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Besides, according to the participants in the hearings, foreign policy of Ukraine should be based on the fact that the current Russian regime poses the existential threat to the independence of Ukraine.

The speakers noted that Ukraine has made a number of steps aimed at the implementation of international legal responsibility of Russia for the violation of its international obligations in the field of the fight against financing of terrorism, liquidation of racial discrimination as well as in the field of the sea law.
