Members of the Ukrainian Parliament / co-chairs of the Equal Opportunities interfaction association gave a briefing at the Verkhovna Rada on the occasion of the House Under Rainbow children paintings exhibition organized along with the La Strada - Ukraine public organization.
The participants in the exhibition were co-chairs of Equal Opportunities Aliona Babak, Mariya Ionova, Svitlana Voitsekhovska and Chair of La-Strada Ukraine, Kateryna Levchenko.
Mariya Ionova noted that domestic violence is one of the problems in the Ukrainian society and that its major victims are women and children.
According to the parliamentarian, an effective way to counteract domestic violence and help its victims is to ratify the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (aka Istanbul Convention).
On behalf of all the Committee members, the co-chairs called on the Ukrainian parliamentarians to give their approval to the bills "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine in view of the ratification of Istanbul Convention" and "On counteraction and prevention of domestic violence" elaborated by the Ministry of Social Policy along with its partners.
The children paintings is one of the events of the awareness campaign in support of the Istanbul Convention planned by Equal Opportunities along with the Social Gender Affairs Council.
