Today, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Hryhorii Nemyria had meeting with newly appointed Representative of Secretary of Council of Europe / Executive Secretary of the European Social Charter Regis Brillat.
The Parties discussed release and return of people's deputy of Ukraine / PACE member Nadiya Savchenko.
Regis Brillat expressed hope that Nadiya Savchenko will visit the PACE session in Strasbourg in June.
Besides, the Parties discussed the priorities in cooperation between the Council of Europe and Ukraine. Regis Brillat said one of his major functions will be close cooperation with the Parliament, in particular, with the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations. The Parties discussed the situation with internally displaced persons in Ukraine and noted the importance of protection of their rights and freedoms.
As earlier reported, on May 24-25, Strasbourg hosted a high-level meeting entitled "Internal displacement in Ukraine: further steps" organized by the Council of Europe.
