At the meeting on May 19 with the participation of people's deputies/members of the Committee Alekseyev I.S., Denysenko V.I., Novak N.V., First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Patskan V.V., as well as representatives of the Secretariats of the Committees on Legal Policy and Justice, on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations, and on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement.
The meeting participants discussed results of the introduction of the institute of free legal aid in Ukraine, improving the quality of free secondary legal aid to detained persons, the issue of perfecting the procedure for selecting lawyers authorized to provide free secondary legal aid and the order of concluding contracts and agreements with lawyers providing free secondary legal aid, and also ensuring stable funding of the system of free secondary legal aid provision.
Also the participants of the meeting discussed the course of the elaboration of separate draft laws on the provision of free secondary legal aid, ensuring of adequate budget financing of the system of free secondary legal aid provision in the country.
People's deputies and representatives of the UN Subcommittee exchanged opinions on the reform of the system of penal institutions and remand prisons in Ukraine.
