People's deputies, members of the Interparliamentary Group of Friendship Ukraine-Italy, will visit the Italian Parliament for building ties with Italian colleagues.
This was disclosed by co-chairman of the Friendship Group Serhii Alekseyev at its meeting with the participation of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic in Ukraine Fabrizio Romano. The parliamentarian said that the organization of this visit became possible thank to direct assistance of Fabrizio Romano.
"I am confident that our visit will even more strengthen relations between the countries. During the visit we plan to discuss cooperation in three areas: political, economic and cultural. In the cultural sphere we have done much over the past year. And in the political sphere we have some progress too," he said.
Serhii Alekseyev said that the program of the visit is being formed, so all members of the Interparliamentary Group are invited to by April 30 make proposals concerning its content, in order to have a possibility to discuss with Italian colleagues the areas of cooperation and interaction of their interest.
In his turn, Fabrizio Romano pointed to significant intensification of relations between Italy and Ukraine at the highest level in recent times. "The scheduled visit of your group to Italy will be an important addition to the high-level visits that have already taken place. I can say that in 2015 and in early 2016 we had more meetings than for 25 years of diplomatic relations between Italy and Ukraine," he said.
Fabrizio Romano said that Italy’s support to Ukraine is full and unconditional. In particular, he said, Italy has always contributed to the liberalization of the visa regime, supported the imposition of sanctions against Russia after the occupation of Crimea, which were approved exactly during the Italian presidency of the EU.
"What concerns the case of Nadiya Savchenko: Italy was the first country to support the demarche in the framework of the European Commission in Moscow aimed at the release of Savchenko. From my point of view, we have a picture of perfect cooperation, including thank to the inter-parliamentary diplomacy which is as an important part of the interstate cooperation," the Ambassador said.
