On April 7-8, 2016, employees of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had an opportunity to attend a number of seminars-trainings entitled "Practice of the European Court of Human Rights" on the basis of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy and Justice with the assistance of the joint projects of the European Union and the Council of Europe entitled "Intensification of application of European standards of human rights in Ukraine" and "Consolidation of elaboration of reforms in the field of justice in Ukraine."

The seminar was focused on the consideration of Articles 5 and 6 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which determine the right to freedom and personal immunity, the right to fair trial and practice of the European Court of Human Rights under the said Articles.

In the course of the event, its participants covered the issue of lawfulness of detention or imprisonment under the procedures envisioned by the national legislation; procedural guarantees of the detained or arrested; rights to access to justice agencies and restriction of the right to trial; etc.

Apart from the employees of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the meeting participants were experts representing the Secretariat of the Governmental envoy for affairs of the European Court of Human Rights and the Secretariat of the High Justice Council.

The host of the event was Pavlo Pushkar — the senior lawyer of the Secretariat of the European Court of Human Rights.
