The event held on January 14, 2016 under the chairmanship of Viktoria Siumar was devoted to the analysis of the state of current regulation of the information sphere and setting of priorities for the near future.
In particular, among the top priorities for the period of the next fourth session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of eighth convocation defined was a task of preparing for the registration and examination by the Parliament of the draft law on audiovisual services.
Viktoria Siumar noted at the meeting that important is a proper taking account of the interests of the industry and needs of further development of the media market in Ukraine.
Among other questions, at the meeting they discussed the contribution, taking into consideration the subject at the Committee's competence, into the legislative support for transition of Ukrainian television and radio broadcasting to digital format, including into settling of the issues of maximum coverage of Ukraine’s territory with digital signal, demonopolization in this sphere, etc.
Following the meeting they will also initiate the preparation of legislative novelties concerning bringing in line with the standards television and radio broadcasting of communities, providing TV and radio companies with universal program service, research into the monitoring and ensuring of reliable broadcasting of Ukrainian media in the occupied territory of the east of Ukraine.
Besides, among the priorities of the Committee, as during the previous sessions, will remain legislative support for ensuring the steps towards denationalization of printed media, activities of Public television and radio, ensuring of transparency of media ownership, implementation, in accordance with international commitments and current challenges of the Law of Ukraine "On access to public information," protection of journalists' professional rights, cooperation in all these areas with public organizations in the media sphere and the public.
