During the first-to-third sessions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the eighth convocation, the Committee on European Integration considered and prepared findings on the compliance with the European Union law, norms and principles of the WTO, commitments of Ukraine under the Council of Europe, of 825 draft laws, and 33 findings on draft laws where the Committee was identified as principal.

In the VIII convocation, the Committee includes five subcommittees - on cooperation with NATO and the Inter-Parliamentary Conference for the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union, on the issues of the Eastern Partnership and Euronest PA; on economic, sectoral cooperation and deep and comprehensive free trade area between Ukraine and the EU; on information provision; on regional and cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and the EU; on adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the European Union (EU) law to ensure its compliance with obligations of Ukraine under the Council of Europe (CoE) and assessment of laws’ compliance with international legal obligations of Ukraine in the sphere of European integration.

According to the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "On the list, composition and competence of the Committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the eighth convocation," the Committee exercises legislative drafting, prepares, preliminary examines the issues within the authorities of the Verkhovna Rada, and performs control functions in the following spheres of competence: participation of Ukraine in international integration processes connected with the activities of the European Union (EU); adaptation of the Ukrainian legislation to the European Union (EU) law to ensure its compliance with obligations of Ukraine under the Council of Europe (CoE); assessment of compliance of draft laws with international legal obligations of Ukraine in the sphere of European integration; state policy in the sphere of European integration; maintaining of inter-parliamentary relations in the framework of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union (EU); coordination of programs of technical assistance of the European Union (EU) to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and special training programs; giving consent to be bound by international treaties of Ukraine with the European Union (EU) and its Member States (ratification, joining the international treaty, adoption of the text of international treaty), denunciation of the said international treaties of Ukraine, cross-border and inter-regional cooperation with the European Union (EU) countries.

The particularity of drafting activities of the Committee is that the emphasis is laid on the analysis of draft laws having relation to the sphere regulated by the European Union law, WTO agreements. The Committee prepares findings on compliance of these draft laws with the European law, WTO standards, and recommends that the Parliament adopt, finalize or reject the draft law.

An element of adaptation of the legislation is examination of draft laws of Ukraine and other legal acts for their compliance with the EU acquis in order to prevent the adoption of legislative acts contradicting the European law, and the Association Agreement.

For the consideration of the Committee delivered are all draft laws submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. As at December 2015 over 3,000 draft laws were registered in the Parliament, including over 500 draft laws aimed at making amendments to customs and tax legislation, of which the Committee has analyzed about 100.

The Committee also held parliamentary, committee hearings, and joint meetings.

In particular, on March 4, 2015, the Committee held hearings on the topic "Progress of fulfillment of the criteria required for the introduction of the EU visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine." They adopted final document – the Decision of committee hearings, which reflects proposals of hearings participants concerning criteria fulfillment.

On April 15, 2015 they held parliamentary hearings on the topic "Prospects of the introduction of the EU visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine." Recommendations of the hearings, approved by the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of May 14, 2015 contain a detailed list of recommendations for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers and the President of Ukraine, the implementation of which should ensure successful fulfillment of the Action Plan on visa liberalization.

On May 13, 2015 they held committee hearings on the topic "Strengthening of the role of European regions in executing cross-border cooperation of Ukraine." Following the hearing, they elaborated the draft Recommendations for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers, bodies of central and local governments, and the leadership of the very European regions.

On September 2, 2015 they held a joint meeting of the Committee on European Integration and the Committee on Foreign Affairs to address the issues of ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, the state of its implementation, the progress of implementation of the second phase of the Action Plan on the EU visa regime liberalization for Ukraine, and energy safety in the Ukraine - EU relations.

On October 7, 2015, held was a joint meeting of the Committee on European Integration and the Committee on Foreign Affairs on the activities of the delegations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

On December 9, 2015 they held a joint meeting of three committees: on European Integration, on Foreign Affairs, on National Security and Defense, and the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the NATO parliamentary assembly concerning measures of comprehensive analysis of the security and defense sphere in the context of Ukraine – NATO cooperation.

The Committee carried out parliamentary control over the activity of bodies of executive power and local self-government, namely they collected and analyzed information on the issues within the competence of the Committee by sending requests to the central bodies of executive power and invitations to the heads of these bodies to the Committee meeting.

For assisting the Committee in carrying out its tasks on July 14, 2015 approved was a composition of the Scientific Expert Council under the Committee, consisting of representatives of educational institutions, experts from leading non-governmental organizations of Ukraine.

Also in June 2015 they created a "Parliamentary expert group (PEG) on European Integration," a group of independent experts providing findings on compliance of draft laws submitted to the Parliament with the Association Agreement with the EU, the European Union law and international treaties. In six months of its activity the PEG analyzed 184 draft laws, of which 52 were examined at the meetings of the Committee. At present the PEG has 105 draft legal acts for the consideration.
