At a meeting on November 27, the Committee Chairperson thanked Japan for the country’s continuing support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as for financial assistance, which the Government of Japan provides to our country. In this regard, it was noted that in 2014 Japan declared allocation of financial credit assistance to Ukraine of over USD 1.6 billion, out of which over USD 900 million is designated for implementation of the project for upgrading the Bortnychi aeration station. Ukrainian party also expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for the allocation of USD 16.6 million on the projects for renovation of the eastern regions of Ukraine and rehabilitation of the population affected as a result of Russian aggression, which are implemented through missions of international organizations in Ukraine.

In connection with the election of Ukraine and Japan to serve as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the period of 2016-2017, the parties agreed over the need to coordinate common priorities, which first of all will concern finding effective ways of combating terrorism. In this context the Committee Chairperson drew attention of the interlocutor to the fact that the behavior of the Russian Federation, which annexed the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and unleashed the war in Donbas, embodies State-sponsored terrorism, which has long ago ended in the destruction of the security system on the European continent. In turn, T. Aiki stressed that Japan as a G7 member state advocates the need for full implementation of “Minsk agreements,” in which the Russian Federation plays a critical role.

During the meeting, T. Aiki also expressed interest in continuation of the support for the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM).
