Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopts as basis draft Law "On amendments to Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine regarding provision of certain categories of convicts with right to legal sentence"

The draft law suggests introducing a temporary procedure for revision of sentences in criminal cases where persons were convicted without proper evidence for grave and extremely grave crimes on the base of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine of 1960 if such persons continue to service the sentences. This will provide these persons with a right to legal sentence and restoration of their rights.

The draft law foresees amending Chapter XI "Transitional provisions" of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine of 2012 with Units 161 - 1611 envisaging that a complaint against the sentence can be submitted directly to an appeal court within the territorial jurisdiction. The period for submission of complaints will close on December 31, 2017.

Respective draft law was registered under No. 2033a.
