During examination of the draft law “On Amendments to the Law “On Education" (concerning peculiarities of access of persons with special educational needs to education services) No.2151a on November 11, the Committee noted that since the draft law offers to amend the Law "On Education" to resolve the issue of access to education services of the most vulnerable groups of the population, it should be approved as a basis and prepared for the second reading, taking into account the conclusions of the Central Scientific Experts Office of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Committees on Budget and on Social Policy, Employment and Pensions, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian non-government association "National Assembly of the Disabled of Ukraine." "It is important to introduce provisions on ensuring access to education for people with special needs, not only to the current Law, but also to foresee such provisions in the new Law "On Education," Committee Chairperson Lilia Hrynevych said.
Among other issues, the meeting attendees – MPs, Committee employees and invited experts - were informed about the draft laws on determination of geographical names, employment of graduates, provision of 1st - 4th grade secondary school students with free catering, raising the prestige of pedagogical work, reorganization and liquidation of educational and fostering institutions of the state and municipal forms of ownership coordinated with local communities, restoration of free catering, travels, provision of secondary school students with textbooks and students with free travels, guaranteeing first job to young professionals, on the financial support of parents whose children study full-time in secondary, vocational and technical, and higher schools.
