The Law envisions shortening the term of keeping of citizens under investigation and court proceedings at detention centers.
It also envisions bringing conditions of detention in line with international standards.
The document provided new wording of Section 5 of Article 72 of the Penal Code of Ukraine. In compliance with the new wording one day of pretrial detention equals to two days of the whole term of imprisonment set for a convict in the course of respective court proceedings.
The Law is spread for all persons, who will not have served all the term of imprisonment as at the date of the Law's enactment.
This law is applied under respective appeal of convicts, their family members or their defense representatives, and courts that passed the said sentences or under own initiative of the court.
