On November 4-7, Chairperson of Verkhovna Rada Committee on Science and Education Lilia Hrynevych took part in World Science Forum 2015 in Budapest. On November 5, she addressed participants in a special section for parliamentarians "Enabling Science Through Parliamentary Governance." In the speech she touched on work at draft law "On scientific and research activities" No. 2244a during the time of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Lilia Hrynevych briefed on Ukraine's vision of the reform of science. In particular, she told about the structure, functions, and the role of the National Council of Ukraine for questions of development of science and technologies in provision of effective cooperation among the Government, the real economy sector, and scientists in formation and realization of the state policy on scientific and research activities. The audience was interested in Ukraine's experience, including the work of the Commission for issues of the future.
Lilia Hrynevych called on parliamentarians to listen to findings and recommendations of scientists and build an effective system of communication with scientists.
Note. November 10 is World Science Day for Peace and Development. World Science Day was instigated as follow-up to the World Science Forum in Budapest (Hungary) in 1999. World Science Day for Peace and Development was established by UNESCO in 2001 and was marked for the first time in 2002.
