The meeting took place on November 20. Participating in the meeting were also European Commission representative Eddy Mayer, representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Jean-Francois Moret, Ukraine - Europe Joint Support Office director David Corbett, Science and Technology Center in Ukraine Executive Director Curtis Bjelajac.

Mykola Tomenko briefed the meeting participants about vital issues of elimination of consequences of the Chornobyl catastrophe: ecological, medical, social; about development of the contaminated areas, the question of the construction of the Shelter facility and social protection of citizens hit by the disaster.

Mykola Tomenko stated that the Parliament of Ukraine had adopted Resolution "On commemoration of participants in elimination of consequences of the disaster at the Chornobyl NPP and events linked with the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl catastrophe."

Michele Rivasi highlighted the importance of realization of projects of the European Union aiming at elimination of consequences of the Chornobyl catastrophe, including a project of the European Union "Rehabilitating and ecological programs linked with the Chornobyl exclusion zone" which includes the following elements: an incinerator for burning wood (commissioned on October 30, 2015); update of a map of radioactive contamination of Ivankivskyi district; establishing an information center to support and consult locals on prevention of penetration of radio nuclides in human body; installation of analytical equipment and devices in Ivankiv hospital to monitor health conditions of children pregnant women and to monitor safety of foods and biological materials; building of a greenhouse to grow clean vegetable for the local population.

The meeting participants agreed that Chornobyl projects within the cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union are vitally important and it would be expedient to widen them in future.
